How to Solve a Rubik's Cube:

Terminology

By Anthony Hsu

The Rubik's Cube has six center pieces that do not move. They simply rotate in place. The cube to the right has only the six center pieces colored. Since the center piece does not move, the center piece determines what color that side should be. When I say to turn a certain side, e.g. the yellow side, that means to turn the cube so that that side's center piece will spin. For example, the cube to the right illustrates turning the yellow side.
Next are the corner pieces. There are 8 of them. Each corner piece has three stickers on it. They are located at the vertices (the corners) of the cube.
Next, there are the edge pieces. There are 12 of them. Each has two stickers on it. Each edge is wedged between two corner pieces and two center pieces.
All right. Done with the brief terminology intro. Now onto the method. I shall be teaching you a layer-by-layer method. Eight steps. Back to the method.
