Erwaman's Personal Journal - September 2006

Back

You may begin. Thursday, September 14, 2006, 8:37 PM.

I read Jane Eyre during my last few days of summer vacation. Though I decided not to write my essay on that novel (I chose instead to write on The Great Gatsby, which half the class did) and apart from its being a good read, I also learned something from a textual note at the end of the novel. I learned what serifs are and the difference between serif and sans serif fonts. A serif refers to the ornamental short lines at the top or bottom of typeface characters, such as characters in this font. Sans is French for without, so sans serif literally means "without stroke." An example of a sans serif font is Comic Sans MS, which is the font on my xanga.

On Tuesday, September 12, 2006, Whippany Park's cross country (XC) team had its first meet of the 2006 season. It was the first of two home meets we have this season. We were up against Boonton, Mountain Lakes, and University.

This season, we made a new course because construction work fenced in part of our old course. Our new course no longer involves the neighborhood and consists of a one-mile loop repeated three times. The loop circles mainly around the 8, with an extra part around the faculty parking lot (which bandies like to refer to as "the band parking lot" because we often have night rehearsals there (Yard lines have been painted on the pavement for this purpose.)).

As of Monday, a day before the meet, we still had not decided a start and finish line. It wasn't until the day of the meet that I found out where we would start and finish. The start was in the grass by the junior varsity baseball field behind Kaiser Island. The finish was at the 50-meter mark on the track.

At this home meet, my first official race of the 2006 season, I set a new personal record (PR) of 20 minutes, 49 seconds. I was extremely happy because my previous PR was the first cross country race of my life, specifically the first meet of last year (also a home meet), my first year of cross country ever. Last season, my first race was my PR for the entire season. The closest I came to this PR was four seconds slower at Kinnelon, which is my favorite course. My old PR was 21 minutes, 33 seconds. On Tuesday, I shattered this time by 44 seconds. ĦHuepa! I just hope this doesn't remain as the best time of this season.

Today, a set of 4x4x4 replacement stickers that I won in the Sunday Contest Random Drawing arrived. I also took a three-hour nap this afternoon. Furthermore, I have a small amount of homework tonight. I'm in a vigorous emotional state right now. I'm lovin' it. See you tomorrow, everybody.

Please put your pencils down. Thursday, September 14, 2006, 9:10 PM.
