October DietSo, I'm a fan of doing random things, and for fun, I decided to try some different diets. Last year, I tried several different diets in February, March, and April:
(I discussed these experiences in this May journal entry (see bullet 2).) When this school year started, I decided I wanted to try some more diets. One idea I had was to eat a salad at every meal where possible. I kinda did it half-heartedly and wasn't serious enough about it, so the diet collapsed. After that, I resolved to come up with an October diet and stick to it. So October came, and I started a new diet: the no hot-food diet. The concept is simple - I'm not allowed to eat any food that is generally intended to be served hot. This eliminates all dishes served in the heated trays, soups, pizza, and pasta. So I'm left with the salad and deli bars, cereal, bread (I can't toast or grill my bread though), fruit, and desserts. 11 days in, I haven't broken resolve yet, but I've felt some big cravings for some greasy, meaty hot food. But I've resisted the temptation successfully thus far. One advantage to this diet is when I enter the dining hall, I immediately skip the hot food line, which can often be quite long. I go straight for the cereal or salad bar or deli bar and I get my food very quickly. The problem I have been having is since I can't eat the hot food - which is where a lot of the meaty, hearty dishes are - I've often felt unsatisfied and instead been filling my cravings with cookies and other desserts (no peach crisp or apple pie or other hot desserts allowed). This is not good. So next month, I'm gonna try a no-dairy-products diet, which eliminates milk, cream, cheese, butter, or yogurt, and consequently most desserts. So why do I do this? I just like doing random things and I like challenging myself, so often I'll do challenge myself doing something random. I like testing strange ideas, and weird diets was just something that came to mind. I'm hungry. Time to eat. |
