Sunday to Monday, 7/27-7/28/08In Staples, I was telling some fellow associates about the three-day road trip I was going on with my friends. I also told them about my conflict, Staples Friday afternoon. Frank D'Aries told me, "Sometimes, people just call in sick or don't show up." He was basically suggesting that I skip.I woke up and called Staples, and my boss was able to reschedule me. Time to go road tripping, baby! We're hitting up Dorney and Hershey Parks. |
Friday to Saturday, 7/25-7/26/08: Pre-College PartyI was coming home from Atlanta and thinking about the pre-college party coming up. Then I was home, in my living room, with Kate, discussing a science project we had to do. Outside, I saw another Kate walking up Cedar Run towards Chris Kuo's house, but I was still talking to the first Kate. She explained we had to build a model of an animal, except we had to slightly misspell the name. Her group - Lulu, Chris, Kate (somehow in the dream I knew this) - was making a macawcaw. I asked her what my group was doing (I didn't know) and she told me we were building a cockadiddleroach. Now a cut scene to my pre-college party. There were about ten people and we were all in my backyard, sitting around one long table. In the middle of the table is one of those giant 8" radius hemispherical bowls, holding the BIGGEST mountain of Lay's potato chips ever. The whole bowl was full, but the chips piled higher, outside the bowl to twice the bowl's height. The shape of the chip pile was almost a sphere, in a gravity/friction-defying arrangement. The chips were about all the food or drink I had. On another table outside was an open cooler. It was filled with ice, but there were no drinks. Just as I observed and thought this, Alice Kim commented, "This is the worst party ever. Where are the drinks?" My dad wasn't home for some reason, probably out buying stuff, so I thought about calling him to tell him to buy more drinks, but then I remembered there was a 6-pack of 7 Up in my laundry room. When I opened the screen door to enter my house, my dad was back, bustling around probably preparing a dish of food! I noticed Mr. Mayans (that's who he was, though skinnier than he is in RL, and he was bald (which he's not in RL)) sitting at my kitchen table, cutting some coconut macaroons with a steak knife. Kate was also there. I ignored all three people in the kitchen and crossed through to the laundryroom. I found the 6-pack of 7 Up, but then I also saw a strip of eight small bottles in a row, like a pack of Yang3 le4 duo1, that delicious, sweet yogurty Chinese drink I haven't had for years now. Upon closer inspection, I saw "Peach Wine" written on the plastic peel-off tops along with some Chinese characters. I left the Peach Wine behind and took the 7 Up out. On my way back through the kitchen, I thanked Mr. Mayans for bringing the coconut macaroons, and he said, "No problem," and Kate said, "Oh, my pleasure. I love to make 'em." Then I thought about the desert I had planned and wondered if that's what my dad was making. When I was outside on the grass again, many people were drinking cans of Coke Classic. No idea where these came from. But I passed around the 7 Up nonetheless. I recall Ken specifically asking me for a drink. I asked him, "Would you like a Coke or a Sprite?" Then, realizing a split second later it was 7 Up, I corrected, "I mean, 7 Up." "7 Up, please, yeah, thanks." I put the remaining cans of Coke and 7 Up in the ice in the cooler. I finally sat down to enjoy myself a bit with the others. I joked, "Man, if we run out of drinks, I'm gonna have to start serving alcohol." Mike Wang replied, "Oh, why didn't you say so? I'll drink faster." Then I told him about the Peach Wine in my laundryroom, and he asked me, "Were there Chinese characters on the cover, too?" "Yes, actually." "Did it say something like: 'he1 tao2zi jiu3, he1 zui4.' " I thought back to what I had read, and yes, that's what it had said. And, I thought "zui4" was supposed to be a play on "shui3," and in my dream, this was hilarious to me and I laughed. And my alarm clock went off. |
AP ScoresA couple days ago, I dreamt of the arrival of my AP scores. In the dream, Dr. Siebert told me my scores: English Lit., 3. Calc. BC, 4. The two Physics, 5s. No mention of the Spanish Language AP I also took.Today, the real scores came in: English Lit. & Spanish Language, 4s; Calc. BC & the two Physics Cs, 5s. Well, considering how I felt about the English and Spanish APs, I'm pretty pleased (and relieved) with the couple of fours. The rest was expected :-). |
