Lucid Dreaming - November 2008

Back

Dream, Tuesday-Wednesday, November 18-19, 2008

So far, my sleep schedule this week has consisted of a series of power naps on the computer science building couches, at all hours of the day – between classes, before band practice, before dinner, in the middle of the night, etc. Oh, pretty much I’ve been living there except to go back to my room to shower and get my bs for class.

The funny thing is though, I haven’t done any computer science homework in the CS building this week, despite spending so much time there. I’ve actually been working on my Chinese presentation. It’s done now, and I’m ready to give it in about 2 hours.

Anyways, I decided I just needed a full night’s worth of uninterrupted sleep, so I went to sleep at 10:30 last night.

I woke up this morning before my alarm sounded! In other words, I woke up naturally, which is a first in a long time. And I remembered my dream!

As a background for my dream, here’s what I heard last night as I laid in bed. From the opposite side of the wall, in the other single, my suitemate Julian screamed, “FUCK!!!!!!!! Who gives a fuck about architecture? FUCK!!!!!!!” Apparently, both he and another of my suitemates have 10-page research papers about architecture due on Friday for their English seminar. Well, it’s not just them, it seems most of the people I know have some sort of major paper due this Friday before Thanksgiving break starts. Heh, this is the time I revel in not taking any writing courses. But then I started dreaming about writing papers.

It was the beginning of the semester again, and I picked all the same classes, except rather than Chinese, I picked a writing seminar. So the semester starts rolling by and it’s another Monday and I realize I have my first paper due Wednesday. But I have other stuff due Wednesday, too, so I craft a plan to get all the other stuff done on Monday and then spend the entirety of Tuesday writing my paper.

I actually finished all my other stuff pretty early in the day on Monday and wasn’t feeling too stressed about writing this paper anymore since it seemed I could even start it on Monday! But then, somehow or other, I realized it was not Monday, but already Tuesday! Holy crap! I start freaking out.

I look at the syllabus for my seminar and realize I don’t even have the book that we’re supposed to be writing about. I asked a friend where I can get a copy. He replied, “They’re all sold out already.”

“Dang it! Um, do you think I could just borrow a copy from the library then?”

“Um, you need an account first, and only the teacher can create one for you.”

Shoot! I had skipped all the previous classes for my writing seminar to work on CS problem sets, and so I never had an account set up!

Well, I just grabbed a blank piece of paper and started writing BS. After a sentence, I realized I had no idea what I was writing about. Fortunately, I woke up.

It seemed like I was doing lots of CS in my dream, which is just the opposite of what I’ve been doing in RL. But, I think my mind was just prepping itself for today, because after Chinese class, I’m skipping CS and marathoning this problem set assigned two weeks ago that’s due at midnight.
