July 3 - July 4, 2014I was in Moscow, Russia, at the airport, and headed home to the U.S. My parents and my friend Dennis were with me. He had placed 2nd at this year's International Geography Olympiad. "How did you get so good at geography?" I asked him. "Playing Titan," he said. "You learn so much geography playing that game." [In reality, the game has nothing to do with geography, apart from different terrains you can fight on.] I then decided to test his geography by asking him the question: "Which two countries is Liechtenstein between?" He guessed Poland and France, saying the countries in Polish and French, even though the countries are not even neighbors. In the dream, I told Dennis the answer was Poland and Germany, but in reality, the answer is Switzerland and Austria. Before we could board the plane, we had to complete some tasks. We had to take a shuttle to the first task. During the trip, a man put a gun to my head. We started talking to him and he eventually lowered his gun. We found out that he had grown up in Poland and had moved to Moscow with his family when his parents were looking for work. They didn't really like it here and were trying to get out and move to Belgium. We got out of the bus and our first task was to shovel snow and scrape ice off the side of a building. Afterward, we went in the building. While waiting for the next task to begin, my parents pointed out some hidden cameras and microphones around the room and told us to watch what we said. It was New Year's Eve, and on a TV, they were showing the New Year's celebrations in Beijing. At the same time, we saw some performers outside doing lion dances. After a short while, it was time for our next task and we were led into a room full of arcade machines. The room seemed familiar. I had been in here the previous New Year's Eve as well [I might have been remembering a prior dream.]. These were not ordinary arcade machines. They were "4D" machines. While playing, hidden levers and switches would pop out and strike you. I remember the experience last year was shocking and painful, so I was very vigilant this time around. I sat on the edge of my chair to try to avoid some of the gadgets and I tightened my abs to brace for the punch to the gut I knew would happen. I started playing the game, which was one of those scrolling games where you move your character around punching and kicking bad guys. Fortunately, before any of the "4D" special effects kicked him, I woke up. Post Comment |
