Autumn Leaves

I touched her pale arm, she leaned on mine,
Both of us knowing that it was time.
I carefully moved away, letting out a choked sigh,
Not believing that this was finally good-bye.
I dared myself to glance at her face,
My cold heart immediately skipped a pace.
Her face was drawn, her skin was white,
Brown velvet eyes shining with all might.
She opened her quivering mouth and tried to speak,
But I turned roughly away, my feelings becoming weak.
A dry leaf floated gently down from a skeletal tree,
Its dead red color instantly reminded me,
Of the days when we had warmth and fire
When we both thought our love would never tire.
She sat on the cold bench, her long hair whipping around,
Her head was cast down, and she made not a sound.
I glanced at her once again, my conscience becoming mild,
She looked up and for a moment looked angry and wild.
Her face then changed into a grim smile,
She stood unexpectedly and ?looks? at me for a while.
I stared disbelievingly as she walked away,
Wishing she was still here to stay,
I remained on the hard stone bench and began to cry,
As I spotted another dead lead that gave a crackling sigh.
